The show, which is marking the 75th anniversary of the opening of the bridge, will feature numerous artists and their interpretations of the bridge. The show opens May 3rd and runs through June 9th. Golden Gate Bridge Series

When I learned a couple of years ago that the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge would take place in 2012, I decided to take a stab at painting the bridge. This bridge is probably in the top 5 of the most photographed and painted bridges in the world. If I were to do this I wanted to try to paint it in ways that may not have been done before.
So here are the eight to date. The last one (bottom right) was just finished yeaterday. I did just learn that the first one (upper left corner) just sold, so it has a new home.

I learned last week that I am one of 21 Northern California California Art Club members who have been juried into an exhibit at the Thomas Reynolds Gallery in San Francisco. I am fortunate to have two pieces selected, North Anchorage, Golden Gate Bridge and Bartholomew Park Eucalyptus. The Artists' Reception is Sunday, January 9, from 3-5 PM. The show opens January 8, 2011 and runs through February 19.

North Tower Nocturne.

Here is a slightly different approach to painting the Golden Gate bridge I did a couple of days ago.

North Anchorage, Golden Gate Bridge

This is a painting I've been mulling over for several months. The Golden Gate Bridge is an icon, and has been depicted in many ways. I usually avoid subjects that are well known, unless I can find a new approach to them. This view from the hill at Vista Point has been done many times. I tried to differentiate it by a somewhat unusual composition, and most of all conveying atmosphere and mood.
